Exide Technologies Settlement Agreement Filed, New Executives Appointed


Exide Technologies entered into an agreement with South Coast Air Quality Management District, related to air pollution control and environmental protections. The Company explains, “This Settlement Agreement is entered into by and between Exide Technologies and the South Coast Air Quality Management District: The District is a political subdivision of the State of California created by the legislature to exercise responsibility for comprehensive air pollution control within Orange County and designated portions of Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, California. District Rule 1407(d)(5) relating to the control of arsenic emissions states that ‘Good operating practices shall be used by the facility, and demonstrated through a maintenance program and the use of measuring devices, or other procedures approved by the District, to maintain air movement and emission collection efficiency by the system consistent with the design criteria for the system.’….Violation of the Mitigation Plan prior to formal approval of the Orders by the Hearing Board will subject Exide to possible administrative and civil actions, including but not limited to an action for civil penalties and injunctive relief….Exide Technologies announced it has appointed two new executives to lead the Company’s efforts to upgrade its Vernon, California recycling facility. The Company has named Thomas Strang as its Vice President, Environment Health & Safety – Americas, and Charles Giesige as Vice President of Recycling Operations – Americas. Mr. Strang is responsible for developing and managing regulatory compliance programs at the Vernon operation and other Exide locations. He also is overseeing the upgrades for the Company’s Vernon recycling facility. Mr. Giesige, will lead strategic oversight and operations of the Exide Americas recycling division, including management of plant purchasing, productivity, quality and logistics functions. In coordination with Mr. Strang, Mr. Giesige will develop policies and programs to enhance environmental compliance.”
